Chilli Sauces for BBQ’s

The concept of cooking meat, fish or vegetables with the heat and hot smoke of a fire, smoking wood or charcoal has been around from centuries and over time has become somewhat of an art, especially in North and South America as well as Australia.

In these parts of the world, it is often easy to plan barbecues far ahead thanks to the generally fine weather conditions but in the UK it is rare to have the sun shining on a set date. So instead of carefully planning chilli sauces and spice mixes traditionally homemade for barbecues, people tend to get a disposable barbecue, grab some meat at the local supermarket and go for mass produced chilli sauces to flavour their food.

At the Devil’s Garden we believe in chilli sauces and spice blends that do all the work for you, so as soon as the opportunity to light a barbecue arises. Take Hot Headz Liquid Hickory Smoke Sauce for example. Although made without chilli this is a must have for people who love the smoked flavour in meat, fish and vegetables but don’t want to spend hours over the barbecue checking the temperature and constantly re-arranging the layout of what is cooking. This is also particularly relevant if you use an electric or gas barbecue rather than one with charcoal. What is also great about Hot Headz Liquid Hickory Smoke is that only a little bit goes a long way so you can keep the bottle in the fridge over the summer without any problem.

A real winner here at the Devil’s Garden is Bad Byron’s Butt Rub Barbecue Seasoning. Still quite new to the UK, the Bad Byron brand of seasoning has been around for 14 years in America. Byron Chism who graduated from a prestigious culinary school decided to create an all-purpose seasoning with a balanced blend of onion, garlic, salt, pepper, paprika and the beloved smoky chipotle chilli pepper that is often used in barbecues. Ensued his now notorious Bad Byron’s Butt Rub Barbecue Seasoning. It is great to use on its own sprinkled over your food (although do not expect much heat, this is all about flavour). Bad Byron’s Butt Rub BBQ seasoning is at its best when used as a marinade too as possibilities are endless. You can use honey, olive oil, crème fraiche, butter, Worcester sauce and many more condiments to take your food to another dimension altogether.

Firefoods Fire BBQ Hot Sauce is a real ray of sunshine in your kitchen. Firefoods have managed to produce a chilli sauce with a smoky, fragrant and extremely addictive flavour that will truly liven up your BBQ! The heat is medium to hot so it is a good medium to have for a wide range of people. We also found that Firefoods Fire BBQ Chilli Sauce works very well as a dip on its own, especially when coupled with Blair’s Death Rain range of chilli crisps!

One of our latest arrivals at the Devil’s Garden is already proving very popular not only with people wanting to host a barbecue but also for those who want a good quality chilli sauce that can be used every day of the year. Sinful Sauces have only been around for less than a year but their 7 deadly sins collection of hot sauces is truly great and varied. Sinful Sauces “Bliss” Hot Sauce is a chilli sauce to die for, with a smoky flavour coming from chipotle chilli peppers and a good kick of chilli from Nagas. These two chillies have been slowly roasted with tomatoes and onions, red wine vinegar, garlic, black pepper and spices so this “Bliss” chilli sauce is a real treat when smothered on your piping hot barbecued food.

Barbecues are always gonna have a special place in people’s hearts not only because it is a great social gathering but also because of the flavour of the barbecued food greatly enhanced by chilli produce such as Sinful Sauces “Bliss” hot sauce,
